Topic: getting back into VTES through Lackey

Hello! Came across this online version of VTES and I'm very excited about playing again. I lost all of my cards years ago and don't really know anyone in my area that plays. I'd love to get involved in some games through Lackey. If interested, let me know what times you generally play so we can get a game going.

PS - Its been a few years, so my first few games will be slow as I relearn the gameplay (as well as get familiar with the Lackey interface).

Depending on the time zone that you are in, you may have an easier or harder time finding a game. Lackey is bigger in Britain and Spain than the US and bigger on the East coast than the West coast. There are some Brazilian players on from time to time. You will mostly see me online on Tuesday evenings and on weekends. I'm in Aptos, CA, how about you?

Re: getting back into VTES through Lackey

Hey Brandon. I'm in New York. I've been on a few times and have sat in on a game. Looks very cool. The players said that they really only want people joining the games who have skype since no one wants to type in the conversations re: the game...makes sense. If you want to schedule a game sometime next week, I'd be down. I just need to play a few times to get back into the rules system. I'm hesitant to just jump into a game with people and hold things up. Let me know. Thanks.

I believe that the technical term for someone on lackey who excludes those without voip is "douche." It's not constructive to exclude new players; they should know better. Overall, I haven't had this problem much.

I can be on next Tuesday night starting sometime after 6:00 pacific time, if you want to play smile It doesn't take long to learn the buttons and other basic parts of the program. I suggest checking out the "solitare" version of the game to try out the mechanics.

Hi Brandon. I was hoping to be online tonight, but something came up. Hopefully we can play sometime soon. Take it easy.

Re: getting back into VTES through Lackey

Any of you guys ever play via JOL (Jyhad ON-Line)?  It's text only but pretty easy to use, once you learn the commands.  Also, there are a lot more people on there than on the Lackey server.  Here's the link:     http://deckserver.net/jol3/beta

I think you forgot to mention that it is turn based and frequently takes a month to finish a game....

Brandon, true, true, though when playing a RT game (Real Time) a five player game can be finished in about 2 hours, sometimes a little more.

You must have some really disciplined friends on JoL. 75%+ of the "real time" games I ever played in degenerated to the slow kind within 7 or so turns. My best advice for someone trying it would be 1) Find out who the really slow players are and do not play with them. They will slow the game down to a crawl.
2) Realize that you are playing a game without visuals, clunky mechanics, strange ideas of what a competitive deck is, and that your demise will be slow and painful.
3) Don't rely on JoL for your VTES, maybe use it as a supplement. It's too slow and frustrating if you are really trying to play. The same could be said of Lackey, but not nearly to the extent that it could of JoL.
