Sorry Falcon, I didn't see your email in my inbox before I posted the comment above.
(Note that, although Andrew is the name I was christened with, everyone knows me as and calls me Wes (except my mother). Can't stand the name Andrew, to be honest, and in any case it just confuses everyone when it's used. No offense taken, but please just call me Wes... or "Ghost" for the purpose of JOL stuff.)
In order to get the league back to what it was, we need to do a few things.
A) Start a new email list. The old one is probably outdated anyway. I would like to have the tools to add and remove people from the list as it became quite frustrating for me when people kept asking to be removed and I had no power to do so. My daily emails became like spam to them, until George got around to removing their emails. I didn't even know who was receiving my emails as I had no way of seeing the list. Does anyone have access to a listserv we can use for this purpose? I have used Postman before but don't know of any free lists we can use. I'd really rather not pay for it if I can avoid it.
B) Send one final email to the OLD list letting people know that the league is being reformed and how to get involved. With maybe one exception, whose name I will not mention here, I propose blanket amnesty to any previously banned players. We start with a fresh slate, in other words.
C) Re-do the website. I think the old site will do for the most part though it will need to be linked to the JOL page again. Can you read it over (http://ghost.mnsi.net/jyhad/league.htm) and see if anything should be added or removed? The judges will likely need to be changed since only three of those six players are active, I think.
D) Firm up the rules, and possibly change them somewhat. Pings, which I have traditionally insisted be used, have lately fallen by the wayside in regular JOL, or so it seems. I don't know if the idea has simply become less useful or if people are just more inconsiderate than they used to be. This creates problems for the league because if people do not ping, the person whose turn it is will not necessarily know they are up, and then how do we determine who is at fault. Theoretically, they should still be checking their games frequently but...
I would also like to consider options for RT. There are a few problems with this, traditionally:
I need to be able to create league games myself, and am not always around to create them when needed. RT games are generally started on-the-spot with whoever is around. Possible solutions are letting other people create them in my absence, but this requires said deputized admins have to make sure league rules are followed, naming conventions are followed, invited players are eligible to play etc. Not quite sure how to do this. It's not quite as trivial as it may sound. Too many cooks and all that.
I am not comfortable with people emailing me, or pinging me from within other games, asking me to create RT games for them (which inevitably become my responsibility when someone fucks off or whatever). I have avoided this by simply not responding, or only starting games that I myself play in. I can see this being a problem with RT games.
Gotta go, will continue this later. Comments welcome.
